Pome Night

Apples are fun to paint and loved working with pastels again. But oh dear, those leaves gave me real hard times.I have to admit, that I am not very fond of painting leaves.I somehow get so frustrated painting them. For this work I was also a little concerned about the background .Initially,I painted blue sky behind but then the apples did not pop up as desired. So,went with a complete black background.Any critiques and suggestions would be appreciated.

  1. It was a wise decision to go for a dark background and the apples really pop out! Lovely work and I dont see your struggle with the leaves here, they look great!

  2. I agree with Padmaja, the background brings out the apples nicely. The leaves are crisp and look as fresh as the apples.Very well done!!

  3. Great work.
Art is the well arranged choreography of light and shade.
It's very recently that I started working with paint.I was more comfortable with pencil and paper.

  4. Another wonderful pastel painting, Yasha. I too like the dark background to set off the apples. I know you hate painting leaves, but a few behind the apples would have made them pop, too. Nice work.

  8. Hi Yasha, I am loving your still lifes...the apples and leaves are beautifully modeled..I think my one suggestion would be to vary the greens a little..perhaps putting some warmer green where the light is hitting and letting the rest remain that lovely cool bluish green. You've already got some of that going on...just a suggestion as it's really very lovely.
