Optimism

This painting stayed on my easel for quite sometime now.Started working on it just after my previous post. The start is always a critical step in a painting I feel.I have experienced it a lot of time that, if I start off well,I come up with a good result and if not,no matter how hard I try,the painting fails to acquire that place in my heart.Same goes with this work.At the initial step itself, I felt things not working out the way I wanted to and so,like I always do,kept it aside for a couple of days.Started working again but things did not change much.Still I finished it somehow but not very happy with the result.Surprisingly,I received a wonderful response on my Facebook when I posted it last night.Would love if my artist friends critiqued my work.:)

P.S:I am sorry for the glare on the photo as I still have trouble getting a dark background photographed.:(

  1. Yasha, The flower has turned out beautifully;neat and precise just as your previous ones. When you don't start off well, the only thing you can do is feel optimistic and try and finish it off. You have done that and it has paid off well! The end result is all that matters and I'm sure you'll give this painting a place in your heart. :-)

  3. Yasha, your flower seems to say "Look at me, I'm beautiful, and Yasha made the best days of my life last forever. Yeah!"

  4. I agree that when a painting starts off wrong it becomes very hard to put any "magic" into it along the way. Good for you to keep trying. Your painting is very striking. I don't think anyone could tell you struggled with this project. I love how the lightness in the background makes the viewers eye travel in a circle around the flower. The colors are very vibrant. It's an enjoyable piece to see. The only critique would be that it seems that the light source is coming from the top right, yet the flower stem directly beneath the flower is quite bright and not in shadow. But other than that, this is a great piece!

  5. Your flower is lovely, Yasha. Maybe you are being too hard on yourself. I know the feeling.

  6. Yasha, Thank you for visiting my Blog. I enjoyed looking through yours.
You are absolutely right about the start. I know right at the beginning if my painting is going to work. If I was smart, I would stop when I realize things aren't going well, but I just refuse too sometimes.
This is not a critique, I like your painting as is, but I personally would have softened some more edges and had a few more brush strokes showing up. The freer you are applying paint may make the experience more fun. Sometimes, I repaint the same painting, speeding it up and using a bigger brush. You free up your mind since it's something you painted before. I think those technique's work for Carol Marine too.
    Happy painting!

  9. I have had this happen to me so many times, and I still have paintings sitting around that I haven't worked on in years. It's hard to regain the feeling of enthusiasm that I initially had for a subject when I really had to struggle with it in the beginning stages. Your flower turned out very nicely, Yasha. You have every reason to feel good about it! :o)
