Optimism

This painting stayed on my easel for quite sometime now.Started working on it just after my previous post.The start is always a critical step in a painting I feel.I have experienced it a lot of time that, if I start off well,I come up with a good result and if not,no matter how hard I try,the painting fails to acquire that place in my heart.Same goes with this work.At the initial step itself, I felt things not working out the way I wanted to and so,like I always do,kept it aside for a couple of days.Started working again but things did not change much.Still I finished it somehow but not very happy with the result.Surprisingly,I received a wonderful response on my Facebook when I posted it last night.Would love if my artist friends critiqued my work.:)

P.S:I am sorry for the glare on the photo as I still have trouble getting a dark background photographed.:(

Sparkle

At the start of this painting,I thought this was going to be one quick piece of work.But,can my prediction ever be right? No! It took me two long days to come up with a finished piece.It could be because I worked with very thin layers of paint this time.But I still feel,I need to improve on my timing.

Limpidity

I was immediately caught by the cool colors and simplicity of the composition in this one.I loved the way the lilies cast dark and prominent shadows on the wall.I do not paint glass too often so,was a little conscious while painting it,but I feel it came out fine.:)

Murmur

Art,painting,creativity,all took a back seat last week because in India here,cricket fever was on and had reached its peak with India playing in the finals of the World Cup and then went all the way winning the cup.Yipee!!! I was glued to the television throughout this weekend and thats the reason my blog got ignored for quite sometime.

Well,things are back to normal now and so am I.So,here is a painting that was almost completed last week, but several reasons behind delay in posting,cricket being the first.The other reason would be I couldn't find a suitable title for this work and I am not very much in favor of posting a painting as untitled.Last and the very obvious reason would be having a terrible day with camera.Tried clicking in natural light and artificial light, but nothing seemed to work.:(

Blooming Tulips

Last week was extremely frustrating for me, as I had no access to the internet due to some technical problems with the connection.Finally its all sorted and I am back on track. Mean while, I thought of trying my hands on oils.Here I am sharing my first ever attempt with oil.
Acrylics and watercolors are the mediums that I worked with, but stayed away from oils.Actually,there are several reasons behind this.Firstly,I had no formal training and had no idea how to go about it.I did follow some videos,sites and some articles about oil painting but,the more I read them, more confused I got.What I knew about oils was that, they take a longer time to dry and cleaning brushes after their use was also a crucial part and I realized that this could be a troublesome job for a lazy bug like me.:) But still,gave it a try and let me tell you my patience really got tested(is it that use of acrylics made me impatient?).
Well,talking about the above painting,I am nor very sure about the result but somewhere within ,there is a sense of dissatisfaction.I did not like the way I painted the red tulips but then, did not want to overdo anything, as a disastrous first attempt can leave a deep impact and I don't want this piece to be my first and last attempt with oils.Would definitely like to work more with oils to improve myself, but how often I would do so?Not sure.
Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.:)
